Mitsubishi's Newest Mitsubishi Gear Shaper Eliminates Need for Helical Guides

Mitsubishi Machine Tools has developed a gear shaper that revolutionizes the cutting of helical gears. The new ST25CNC Gear Shaper combines a high speed, high precision spindle with a patented synchronized control to completely eliminate the need for helical guides.

A revolutionary mechanism allows helical gears to be cut by setting the helix angle on the CNC control. Changeovers are handled by reprogramming the CNC to cut each new configuration – which eliminates the need for a helical guide change – significantly decreasing set-up time to a few minutes.

Mitsubishi has designed a Windows-based user-friendly CNC control for the ST25CNC with a touch screen feature to facilitate customized programming and help eliminate lengthy programming time.

The ST25CNC also features high speed feed control for enhanced accuracy. By using a modified, inverse-transfer function data processing method, the NC data is read in advance of the servo amplifier to compensate for under- or over-torque at the same point in the next stroke.

In addition, the machine has a very large diameter spindle of 100mm for aggressive cutting, a spindle stroke of up to 1,000 strokes/min., a rapid traverse rate of 10,000 mm/min. and a maximum helical angle of ±45ΒΊ.

Contributing to the ST25CNC's accuracy are its highly rigid and compact frame and built-in automatic thermal distortion compensation system – both important elements in gear production equipment.
