Haas VF-2 TR Compact 5-Axis VMC & ST-10SSY Super Speed Y-axis Lathe At Southern Manufacturing
January 20, 2012
One of the most time-consuming and costly components of any machining job is the initial set-up, especially for complex parts that require machining on multiple sides. Such parts often require multiple set-ups and complex fixturing, which can drive up the cost per part and result in less accuracy. The new VF-2TR trunnion machine from Haas Automation allows full five-axis machining of complex multi-sided parts in a single set-up, thus reducing set-up time and increasing accuracy. This unique machine is ideal for such industries as model making, tool & die and aerospace where complex shapes, multi-sided machining andfive-axis work are quickly becoming the norm.
Based on the shop-proven Haas VF-2 (with 762 x 406 x 508 mm xyz travels, 40-taper spindle and 20-hp vector dual drive), the VF-2TR features a Haas TR-160 dual-axis trunnion table mounted to the standard T-slot table, to provide 5-axis simultaneous motion or position a workpiece to nearly any angle for machining. The trunnion provides ±120 degrees of tilt on the A axis and a full 360 degrees of continuous rotation on the B axis. It accommodates parts weighing up to 175 kg (part and fixture), with a part swing of 445 mm. The 160 mm platter features six precision T-slots equally spaced at 60 degrees for easy fixturing. The TR-160 can easily be removed from the VF-2TR when only 3-axis machining is required; the machine's standard 915 mm x 355 mm T-slot table provides plenty of room for fixtures and vices.
The VF-2TR comes standard with a 24-pocket side-mount tool changer, automatic chip auger, programmable coolant nozzle, Visual Quick Code programming system, floppy disk drive, 16 MB of program memory, remote jog handle, spindle orientation, coordinate rotation and scaling, user-definable macros and high-speed machining software with full look-ahead. Productivity-enhancing options including high-speed spindles, linear scales, high-speed rapids and an affordable probe system are also available.
Such high-productivity options as high-speed spindles, linear scales, High-Speed Machining with full look-ahead and several probe systems are also available.
There will also be the 2012 ST-30SSY CNC turning centre. The Super Speed ST-30SSY has a maximum cutting capacity of 406 x 584 mm and is equipped with a 24-station hybrid BOT/VDI turret. The A2-6 spindle turns to 4,800 rpm, and features a 254 mm hydraulic chuck and a 76.2 mm bar capacity. A 30 hp vector drive system provides 250 ft-lb of torque. Rapids are 24 m/min on the X axis, 30.5 m/min on the Z axis, and 18 m/min on the Y axis.
The new lathe provides a maximum swing of 806 mm over the front apron, with a 527 mm swing over the cross slide. Standard equipment includes high-torque live tooling with C axis, rigid tapping, spindle orientation, a 15" colour LCD monitor, and a USB port. Available high-productivity options include a belt-type chip conveyor, automatic tool probe, automatic parts catcher, high-pressure coolant systems, and more.
There will also be the opportunity to see a Haas Mini Mill 2 and an ST-10 lathe cutting metal.
