"Smart Mini" Is Added To Wenzel Smart Series Of Shop Floor CMMs

Wixom, Michigan - The Wenzel Smart Series of CMMs is specifically designed and developed to solve shop floor CMM implementation issues related to the measurement of small and medium size manufactured parts. CMMs that are used on-the-manufacturing-floor require a rugged design with good dynamics, the ability to operate in varying temperature conditions, a high degree of accuracy and ease of use by operators. The original Smart series included two machine models that had differing measuring ranges. One was 500 x 450 x 400mm and the other 1000 x 450 x 400mm. The machines require no shop air and can be supplied on a mobile base that can be easily relocated on the shop floor.

However, market research has revealed the need for a shop floor CMMs machine with a smaller measuring range…hence, the introduction of the "Smart Mini". The Mini has a small footprint and a measuring range of 300 x 450 x 400mm. Like all the Smart Series machines, it has been designed and built to exacting and rugged machine tool standards. It uses fine grain native-black granite producing thermal stability with outstanding dynamic performance, tremendous stiffness and natural vibration dampening. It has precision linear guideways that are protected and covered, carbon fiber scale mounts, and a unique carbon fiber Z axis design. It utilizes the industry standard Renishaw TP20 or TP200 probing systems and offers volumetric accuracy of 2.5 microns.

When these Smart CMMs are configured with OpenDMIS software they can be used for first article inspection or as a dedicated shop floor gage. With the OpenDMIS Xecute Interface that allows programming off-line, relatively unskilled operators can be quickly trained to operate the machine.

Wenzel GmbH is the 4th largest CMM builder in the world and manufacturers its CMMs intrinsically accurate, negating the need for the huge error compensation files to achieve quoted accuracies which have become the norm in past years from most CMM manufacturers. The black granite used on their CMMs is processed in-house at their impressive manufacturing facilities in Germany, not imported from China pre-finished…which is now the industry norm.
