ADII Series Surface Grinders
The wheelhead houses a large diameter cartridge type spindle and is supported by class 7 high precision angular contact ball bearings. The spindle motor is aircooled, further eliminating thermal growth problems that affect surface finish and machine accuracy. The spindle is permanently lubricated and requires no maintenance. On the 20" models, the wheelband is driven by a hardened and ground leadscrew while 24" models are positioned by precision ballscrews. Both wheelheads are equipped with an AC servo motor providing high torque, speed and accurate positioning with minimum increment of 0.0001".
When fitted with the optional automatic overwheel dresser with automatic compensation, the machine can run unattended, making it perfect for production runs. A manual pulse generator (MPG) comes standard with the machine. The extended base guideways for cross-feed and longitudinal travel enhances machine stability and rigidity, providing complete support for big workpieces with no overhang problems. The column speed is controlled by a frequency converter, which results in better surface finish and improved dressing from table. The table speed is 16-80fpm while the wheelhead vertical infeed travel is 15.7"/min. Table reversal is controlled by proximity switches which never make contact.
The column is made of dense Meehanite cast iron with ribbed honeycomb design for extra strength. The 20" series uses one "V" and one flat longitudinal slideways while the 24" series has double "V" crossfeed guideways. All guideways and slideways are ground and laminated with Turcite-B, then precisely hand-scraped. The guideways are automatically lubricated for smooth, stick-slip free movement.
