New Easy To Use Conversational VMC

The search for easy to operate, machinist-friendly VMCs ends with Chevalier's new 2040MV-A, a true conversational VMC using Anilam's 6400M control. While other VMC's require a certain degree of programming knowledge to operate at full efficiency, the 2040MV-A makes machining easier with its easy-to-understand fill-in-the-blanks format.

Programming input can be done through MDI, RS232 and floppy disk. General computing features include: 586-133 SBC with DRAM, VGA/LCD, I/O and ethernet capability; 2GB hard drive, 32 bit 60Mhz processor, 12.1" TFT (flat panel) display, full alpha-numeric keyboard and function keys with metal domes and a large DIN connector for external PC keyboard. With 40"x20"x24" (XYZ) travels and 16 tools ATC, the new machine delivers 550ipm rapids on XY and 350ipm on Z. The powerful digital AC 15HP spindle motor runs with a high torque, slip-free timing belt.

There's a 16 tool automatic tool changer with an option for 20 tools. An automatic lubrication system includes metering valves for proportional distribution of lubrication fluid. Productivity is within operator's fingertips with the 6400M's 25 canned cycles such as tapping, drilling, pocket milling, etc.A full-feature simulation graphics program can simulate a section of or the entire program itself. All castings are made of Meehanite cast iron, stress relieved and ribbed for maximum rigidity. The column has Turcite-B coated rigid square ways while the table has dovetail ways. Every machine is laser and ballbar-calibrated, assuring +/-0.0002" repeatability and +/-0.0004" positioning accuracies. The machine is available in open type and full enclosure models.
