New Submicron Profile Grinder

Now available from Chevalier is the ULTRA-612 super precision CNC profile grinder, designed to produce parts with tolerances in the submicron range. Minimum increment is 0.000010", repeatability is 0.000020" while minimum movement on YZ is 0.000020".The 6"x12" table can accommodate loads up to 176lbs. The CNC system has a variety of productivity-enhancing features that make it ideal for rapid prototyping and high-volume production of small precision parts. The control is PC-based and allows the operator to switch between manual, semi-automatic, fully automatic or CNC operation depending on work requirements. With its conversational control language, all the information is in an easy to use, question-and-answer format. The screen displays all the available grinding options such as profile and contour as well as 4 standard dressing modes. Canned cycles include slicing/plunge, profile, criss-cross and step with optional hydraulic creep feed. There is a "macro zone" which allows the operator to create his own programs. The automatic wheel dressing and compensation is also in conversational format and can be done during machining or at end of cycle. Other features include encoder index, 3-axis automatic lubrication system and a longitudinal drive mechanism with separate hydraulic cylinder system for ease of maintenance. Setting the X axis stroke has never been so easy with its question and answer screens. The elevating and cross-drive mechanism use 25mm class C0 ballscrews mated to a precision gear drive and Mitsubishi AC servo motor. The vari-speed spindle (0-7000rpm) has 4 class P2 angular contact ball bearings, no-leak labyrinth seal design and oil cooling system. The rated power is 7.5HP. The column and base have been designed using Finite Element Analysis technique for superior rigidity and vibration dampening. The hand-scraped double "V" guideway provides maximum stability for smooth part finish.
