The Mynx500 vertical machining center has ribbed, one-piece casting and integral box ways that provide a rigid foundation for heavy cuts and high precision. Its fine-grain Meehanite composition eliminates thermal distortion, and provides dampening characteristics. A rigid box-type column is also ribbed to prevent twisting and distortion. The hand-scraped ways are induction hardened and precision ground, then Reulon coated. The table has no overhang, and is fully supported in all positions. Each axis is driven by a high precision double-nut ball screw, and the ball screws are centered between the guideways, and supported on both ends by angular contact thrust bearings. This double pretension design eliminates thermal growth, and enables +/-0.00020 in. full stroke positioning accuracy and +/-0.00008 in. repeatability. The ball screws link directly to a 5 Hp servomotor.
