Specter diamond abrasive wheels for vertical spindle grinding are designed to provide flatter parts and more consistent finish and parallelism on nonferrous hard-to-grind materials including engineered ceramics and glass
Norton Companymond abrasive wheels for vertical spindle grinding are designed to provide flatter parts and more consistent finish and parallelism on nonferrous hard-to-grind materials including engineered ceramics and glass.

The superabrasive wheels combine diamond abrasive with an advanced bond metal system to provide high material removal rates and low specific grinding energy.

They are available in two main designs: continuous rim wheels and button wheels. Continuous rim wheels are available in sizes ranging from 4- to 11-in. (outside diameter) with diamond abrasive depth from 0.25- to 0.375-in. The 10- and 11-in. wheel sizes are bias-slotted for improved coolant application.

Button wheels are available in sized from 10- to 24-in. (outside diameter). The 0.375-in. buttons have a diamond depth of 0.375-in. Buttons are tailored to the grinding load.

The manufacturer states that in customer tests on 99% alumina (fully dense), 8.25-in.dia. × 1-in. workpiece, and 8.5-in.dia. wheel produced a finish of 42µ-in. RA. The 24-button wheel, run at a speed of 1,150 rpm provided a total stock removal of 0.1-in. and G-ratio of 2675.
