Powerful new tools for creating more dramatic styling as well as complex carved shapes are available in ArtCAM Pro from Delcam International Inc., here.

Major enhancements in the new software package, ArtCAM Pro Version 4.5, include new tools for interactive surface smoothing plus the ability to create shapes by sweeping vector cross-sections along pairs of lines or "rails." This is believed to be the first software tool to carve dimensionally accurate organic shapes in this manner.

In addition, ArtCAM can now use conventional CAD files.

ArtCAM Pro is for 3D creative design and driving CNC routers. In contrast with conventional CAD/CAM, ArtCAM creates 3D reliefs from color vectorized 2D artwork. These designs can then be machined on a 3-axis CNC router. The software runs under Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 95, 98, NT and 2000 operating systems on any Pentium-powered PC. Price is US$7,500.
