The manufacturer states that the wheels have demonstrated the ability to reduced grinding cycle times, resulting better machine usage and lower cost per part. In addition, the advanced resin bond used in the wheels results in more consistent wheel-to-wheel performance, producing fewer rejects and more parts per wheel.
The manufacturer states that in one gear pump application, a 120-grit wheel was used to generate a surface finish of 0.8µm (32µin. RMS) and 4µm (0.00016-in.) parallelism. The wheel provided 0.1mm (0.004-in.) stock removal in a 10-sec cycle time.
The new double disc grinding wheels are available in grit sizes from 60 to 800 grit, and CBN thicknesses of 3mm, 5mm, 0.125-in., and 0.25-in.
Wheel shapes are 2A2t, 2A2TS, 2A2S, and 6A2T. Wheels are delivered in standard sizes of 305 × 50mm (12- × 2-in.) and 455 × 50mm (18- × 2-in.).
