The Rapid Prototyping & Manufacturing 2001 Conference and Exposition is scheduled for May 15–17 at Ohio's Cincinnati Convention Center. Sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and its Rapid Prototyping Association (RPA/SME), the conference covers the full range of design, rapid prototyping technologies, additive processes used throughout the rapid product development process and rapid processes for rapid production.

Rapid prototyping applications are found in the automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, and business machine industries. Newest entrants include toy, jewelry, medical and consumer product industries.

Features of the event include the latest innovations in products and services for rapid prototyping and rapid manufacturing. Materials, equipment, and software for rapid prototyping and rapid tooling as well as evaluation of products that reduce costs and produce high quality parts quickly will be featured.

Returning to the 2001 event is a core group of companies that have participated in the past. These "alumni" companies include 3D Systems (Valenica, CA); Astrol Model Development (Eastlake, OH); DTM Corp. (Austin, TX); Prototech Engineering (Willowbrook, IL); Stratasys (Eden Prairie, MN); and Vantico (formerly CIBA Specialty Chemical: East Lansing, MI). From this group, the event has grown to include about 150 companies and service bureaus involved in the rapid prototyping and manufacturing technology industry.

First time exhibitors include Acu Cast Technology (Lawrenceburg, TN); Dynacept (Brewster, NY); General Foundry Services (San Leandro, CA); SENA Technologies (Korea); and Scimitar Prototyping (Streamwood, IL).

Other companies include Kreon Industries (Pontiac, MI); Rudolph Bros. (Canal Winchester, OH); Harmony Casting (Harmony, PA) Solid Concepts (Valencia, CA); and DPSS Lasers (Santa Clara, CA).
