<%=company1%> (Chatsworth, CA) is expanding its Performance Series of vertical machining centers with a new VMC capable of removing high volumes of material from large workpieces. The new VMC 6535, which features a 40-taper (50-taper optional) 30-hp spindle with 10,000-rpm is designed for high material removal with a very short cycle time.

The VMC 6535 is squarely aimed at machining steel mold bases and aluminum wing spars and is also equally well-suited for Tier 2 and 3 automotive parts suppliers.

The VMC 6535 delivers a high-performance 24/7 duty cycle with cutting rates up to 400-ipm and rapid travel rates up to 900-ipm. Also featured are air/oil lubrication and 1:2 / 2:1 two-speed mechanical Hi/Lo. It features heavy-duty construction, weighing in at 28,000-lb with a large work envelope of 65- × 35- × 34-in. XYZ travels and 69.5- × 35-in. table. Utilizing boxways with a four-box bed, the VMC 6535 provides the rigidity and superior damping capability, engineered to handle the heavy-cutting operations of a 24/7 duty cycle with 40- or optional 50-taper spindle.

Double-anchored, extra-large 63-mm ballscrews deliver precise positioning for high-accuracy machining of massive parts. The VMC 6535 features a wash down and conveyor system, utilizing coolant jets, washing chips from the back to the front of the VMC, where they fall into the chip conveyor. The conveyor moves the chips out of the VMC and up to a height of a 55-gallon drum. Collection in a large bin reduces the amount of time spent emptying the chip container and enables unattended operations.

Two optional spindle systems are available for 24/7 duty cycles, including a 50 taper, 50-hp, 7,500-rpm spindle with air/oil lubrication and 1:1 single speed Wye/Delta Hi/Lo. Also available is a 40-taper, 22.5-hp, 15,000-rpm spindle with air/oil lubrication and 1:2 single speed mechanical Hi/Lo.

The VMC 6535 is available with either the Fadal MP CNC control with Parallel Processing or Siemens Sinumerik digital control. The Fadal MP CNC, featuring up to nine microprocessors working simultaneously, increases performance with fast and precise servo control. Dedicated processors on each axis avoid data starvation and provide more processing power so that tool path accuracy is maintained even at high feedrates.

With the equivalent of four 32-bit processors, the MP CNC delivers a processing speed of 3,000 block/second, moving 128 bits of information at one point in time. The MP CNC is packed with time-saving features, including automatic fixture offsets, tool life management, program verification, solid model rendering, Realtime Background Edit and Basic language macros.

The Siemens Sinumerik 810D control delivers faster program execution speeds for a smoother surface finish when contouring at high spindle speeds. Featuring smoothed acceleration, wear on mechanical parts is reduced and travel response optimized, enabling higher performance and longer service life. A contouring mode, with programmed corner rounding, enables faster machining of corners, reducing cycle time. The program execution rate is increased with FIFO, a dynamic preprocessing buffer. Spline interpolation, with A, B and C splines, generates smooth transitions, reducing the program size and speeding up machining operations. The Sinumerik 810D delivers comprehensive control of high-speed machining with look-ahead, dynamic feed forward and programmable acceleration.

The VMC 6535 keeps cool by maintaining a constant temperature with Fadal's Cool Power refrigerated cooling system, eliminating thermal growth and repeatability problems. By circulating a high-performance heat transfer agent through the spindle nose, around the spindle cartridge and head stock and through the center of the gun-drilled ball screws, thermal expansion is reduced and consistent positioning accuracy is ensured. The temperature of the heat transfer agent is monitored and chilled as required, maintaining the temperature of positioning components within ±1.0 degree of the VMC's ambient temperature. Despite ambient temperature variation, parts are machined with consistent accuracy. The system is closed-loop, isolating the heat transfer agent from chips and other contaminants.

Fadal manufactures three lines of VMCs, two CNC controls, and a line of rotary tables, indexers and pallet shuttle systems. Fadal VMCs range from 550- × 400-mm to 2,032- × 760-mm table size and are utilized for cutting a broad range of materials, such as steel, titanium, aluminum, plastics and wood. Extensive training and support programs are offered by Fadal, which include 24-hour response technical support teams and a global network of distributors trained to deliver world-class after-sales support.
