Five-axis Laser for Large Part Processing

The Pedilas Laser System is a gantry or portal system with five-axis laser beam movement for integrated cutting or welding of large workpieces. The system's large work area can be used for processing-only or divided into two sections—one for processing and one for fixturing the next workpiece.

The 6 kW laser is shown cutting very large sections of multistory, telescoping cranes. The X-axis travel was extended well beyond the standard length. The laser resonator travels alongside the system with its own carriage and drive. The working area beneath the Y-axis bridge is completely open and accessible from both ends. The worktable has been removed, creating space for work on very large crane components. After easy removal of the cutting table/exhaust box, 3D parts may be fixtured on the floor for processing. The standard Z-axis movement of 8-in. (200mm) has been extended to 40- in. (1,000mm).
