Five-sided/Five-axis CNC Machining Centers
The bridge-type machine features a stationary cross rail on which travels a ram-type spindle head that provides 100-in. (2540 mm) of cross Y-axis movement and 39.4-in. (1000 mm) of vertical Z-axis movement. The machine's (W)66.9-in. × (L)137.8-in. (1700 x 3500 mm) table with load capacity of 20,000-lb (9000 kg) travels 157.5-in. (4,000 mm) in the X-axis.
The machine features a compact saddle/ram to reduce Y-Z axes stack-up, dual hydraulic counterbalance mechanisms, and a symmetrically designed Z-axis ram that can significantly minimize yaw errors about the vertical spindle axis, according to the manufacturer.
The U5 bridge-type has a "closed-loop" frame design in which the ram-type spindle operates. To achieve a full range of processing capability, four versatile head attachments are available. The standard vertical head has a 50-taper spindle driven by a 30-hp (22.4 kW) continuous, 6,000 rpm motor.
The bridge-type offers an optional automatic toolchanger (ATC) that loads 50-taper tools in the spindle head. The ATC has a standard magazine capacity of 60 tools, expandable to 120. Maximum tool weight is 65-lb (29.5 kg), with tool a tool length capacity of 19.7-in. (500 mm), and tool diameter capacities of 11.8-in. (300 mm).
The PC-based A2100 CNC comes standard on the machining centers. This dual processor control has 8 MB of part program storage, 666 blocks/sec of program execution speed, and 120 blocks of immediate lookahead.
