GE Fanuc Expands Motion Systems with Whedco Acquisition
The acquisition of Whedco Inc (Ann Arbor, MI) by GE Fanuc Automation (Charlottesville, VA) is enabling GE Fanuc to expand its motion systems family, by building on its servo motor, machine control, and operator interface technologies.
Whedco, formerly a private company, is a developer of leading edge servo and stepping motion control systems for industrial automation. Whedco's technology with "networkable" controller/amplifier packages is said to add a new dimension to GE Fanuc's Open Control Initiative. The ability to connect an extremely powerful servo controller on DeviceNet provides customers with increased flexibility within the rest of their machine control architecture.
The acquisition provides Whedco with an opportunity to expand its position as a preeminent supplier of best-in-class servo and stepping motor control systems, says GE Fanuc. The benefits to customers will be significant, including a broader range of product offerings, complete system solutions, and worldwide customer support as part of GE Fanuc's global organization.
