GE Fanuc Software Suite Interfaces with OpenFactory CNCs
The Standard Operation Software Suite (SOSS) from GE Fanuc Automation (Charlottesville, VA) provides an affordable operator interface solution for machine tool applications. Basically, it integrates ladder edit, machine monitoring and maintenance capabilities with core operator interface software. Part of the GE Fanuc OpenFactory CNC family, SOSS can be used in conjunction with the GE Fanuc Series 150, 160, 180, and 210 CNCs with HSSB or integrated PC hardware architecture.
"The Standard Operation Software Suite is designed for machine tool builders and users who require an economical, easy-to-use open machine tool," says John Turner, manager, Open System CNCs for GE Fanuc. "By minimizing the effort to configure, develop, and customize software, the SOSS also narrows the price gap between a traditional control and an Open System CNC."
Designed for the Windows NT environment, the SOSS takes advantage of powerful NT features, including multi-tasking, security, and robustness. This "load and go" software suite is bundled with a quick PC setup installation procedure, minimizing setup time.
The SOSS reduces machine downtime with ladder display and edit functions that allow maintenance personnel to quickly diagnose problems by displaying I/O states and updating interface logic. The operator interface software allows a user to easily display machining information, such as position and tool data, and manages part program files. From lathes to milling machines, SOSS software automatically adapts to the configuration of the machine tool. Additions such as Shop Floor Programming can be integrated without any configuration processes. The machine monitoring capability of the SOSS uses a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to store information, allowing easy exchange with other applications using standard OLE and ODBC compliant options.
