Heavy machine foundations are dynamically uncoupled from the foundation substructure of supporting beams and columns. The machine deck can now be integrated directly into the building substructure. The Spring-VISCODAMPER elements support the static weight of the machine and deck, and absorb the dynamic forces created during operation. Seismic forces are also isolated, reducing the risk of damage from earthquakes and other external shocks. GERB Spring-VISCODAMPERS are maintenance free.
The mass of the elastically supported machine foundation can be reduced by as much as 60%, compared to conventional machine foundations. Smaller foundations are more cost-effective, saving plant space and construction time. Elastic machine foundations offer better load distribution, and simplify adjustment and realignment in the event of settlement.
GERB Spring-VISCODAMPERS are also used as dynamic restraints on critical piping systems. Pipework dampers are effective in all degrees of freedom, and dampen operational and shock-type excitations without delay or time lag. There are small resistance forces in case of thermal expansion.
GERB offers complete civil engineering capabilities for machine foundation design, including:
- Soil assessments
- Existing foundation assessments
- Proposal for new or updated foundation systems, including documentation
- Construction supervision and startup assistance
