Gibbs to Demonstrate Solid Edge-to-GibbsCAM Part Transfer Add-In At Solid Edge Global Summit
Gibbs and Associates, developer of Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software for programming Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machinery and controls, announced today that they will demonstrate the Solid Edge-to-GibbsCAM Part Transfer Add-In at the Fourth Annual Solid Edge Global Summit. The event is being held from September 24-28, 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia. Attendees will see firsthand the integration between Solid Edge and GibbsCAM that assures a high level of interoperability between the two applications.
Unigraphics Solutions recently approved GibbsCAM as a "Certified Select Product" under the new Solid Edge Voyager program. As part of meeting the "Certified Select Product" qualifications, the Solid Edge-to-GibbsCAM Part Transfer Add-In was created to support the push-button transfer of Solid Edge part models directly into GibbsCAM. This Solid Edge Add-In adds one menu item to the user's Solid Edge program called "Tools/Add-In/GibbsCAM/Transfer Part To GibbsCAM". When this entry on the Add-In menu is selected, GibbsCAM automatically opens and loads the current part model ready to be machined. If GibbsCAM is already running the user has complete control how to receive the Solid Edge part model - start a new GibbsCAM session with the Solid Edge part model, add the Solid Edge part model to the current GibbsCAM session, or replace the part model in the current GibbsCAM session with the Solid Edge part model. The Solid Edge-to-GibbsCAM Part Transfer Add-In is offered free of charge to GibbsCAM end users and is now available for immediate download from the Gibbs Online support section on the web at www.gibbsCAM.com.
GibbsCAM has also been updated to Parasolid V13 to maintain compatibility with Solid Edge V10. Because GibbsCAM and Solid Edge are both based on the Parasolid modeling kernel part model data can be directly exchanged. Not only does this common usage of Parasolid eliminate the need for data translation, but it also insures that model evaluation between both systems is exactly the same preventing geometric differences from being introduced. This ensures that the part geometry will be machined directly as designed resulting in the highest degree of fidelity in the finished product. GibbsCAM customers continue to experience significant reductions, often as much as 75 to 85 percent, in their overall programming time through the Solid Edge/GibbsCAM CAD/CAM solution.
