High Capacity, Quick Cycling Traveling Column Conqueror Developed For Wet Or Dry Cutting
Developed to accommodate high throughput using multiple pallet loadings under both dry and wet machining conditions, the StarragHeckert HEC 500D XXL Conqueror, a travelling column, horizontal spindle machining centre is capable of providing multi-sided machining of multiple complex components in extremely short production cycles.
Available from StarragHeckert UK of Brackley, with a range of spindle options from a high torque 350 Nm drive up to high speed 70,000 revs/min and featuring rapid traverse rates of 100 m/min, the HEC 500D XXL is able to accept pallet loadings up to 800 Kg which is ideal for multiple component loading cycles. Used this way it has the ability to reduce cycle times by repeat feature machining on multiple fixtured parts thus lowering the requirement for tool and pallet changes and the need for frequent workspindle acceleration and deceleration.
Slideway acceleration is quick at 1g to the 100 m/min rapid traverse rate over the working travels of 850 mm by 750 mm by 800 mm and chip to chip tool change time is 2.2 secs – an outstandingly short time for its tool size and capacity. Pallet exchange takes just 9.5 secs and pallet indexing is carried out at 100 revs/min.
The machine is thermo symmetrical in design on a heavy duty bed giving high static and dynamic levels of rigidity. Central to its capability for both wet and dry machining is complete and unhindered chip flow using a 600 mm wide central chip conveyor. This system eliminates swarf contamination and thermal effects from the high rates of metal removal this machine can provide. All linear axes utilise heavy duty roller guides with direct measuring scales for high accuracy positioning.
Standard on the machine is a 15,000 revs/min HSK 63 spindle having a 31 kW, 200 Nm torque drive. In addition, a series of three spindle options include 31 kW 10,000 revs/min with 20 Nm of torque, a 41 kW 20,000 revs/min spindle with 80 Nm of torque and a 60 kW 24,000 revs/min drive developing 66 Nm of torque. A high powered 35 kW spindle can also be specified with 350 Nm of torque and 10,000 revs/min maximum speed and a turbo-spindle, which is fully programmable between 40,000 and 70,000 revs/min. This high performance spindle can be exchanged via the machine's tool change arm with the storage magazine and incorporates vibration monitoring.
The spindle is serviced by a double-arm tool change mechanism able to carry tools up to 10 Kg in weight, 160 mm in diameter and up to an impressive 400 mm in length - ideal for line boring type applications. Chain magazines are available for 60 or 80 tools with options of 120, 160, 180, 240 or 320 tools. Through tool coolant with up to 80 bar pressure is available.
Complete multi-sided or contour machining can be carried out via the NC rotary table which has an input resolution of 0.001 (degrees) and an indexing speed of 100 revs/min. Pallet size options are 500 mm by 500 mm or 630 mm by 500 mm. Control is via Siemens Sinumerik 840D with integrated PLC and digital drive technology.
