--Based on an actual machine installation, it is possible to reduce setup time by 83%, reduce run time by 43%, combine 20 operations in a single setup, and hold .00004" tolerances over conventional grinding methods on the Kellenberger Kel-Varia Super-Precision CNC cylindrical grinding machine.

Here are the features that make it possible to:

  • Improve productivity by combining grinding operations (OD, ID and Face) as well as an unlimited number of angles within degrees, minutes or seconds in one operation, using our unique CNC-controlled B-Axis with .00003-degree resolution. The B-Axis eliminates setup and load/unload on subsequent operations.
  • Achieve higher accuracy and reduce scrap & rework through the use of 4 millionths resolution, Hydrostatic Ways in the X- and Z-axis (which provide no-slipstick repeatability of machine axes) and complete isolation of the machine base from the guarding and remaining infrastructure, and by combining multiple operations to achieve superb concentricity of diameters.
  • Reduce cycle time by reducing spark-out time due to the elimination of slipstick by the Hydrostatic Ways in both the X- and Z- Axis. Substantially reduce load/unload time by combining operations.
  • Achieve near-zero downtime with the highest level of reliability due to no metal-to-metal contact in the Hydrostatic Ways and Hydrodynamic Wheelhead Spindle.

The machine also includes a heavy-duty, high-precision workhead. The C-Axis option allows CNC form grinding on a variety of non-round component configurations. A complete line of grinding accessories is offered.

Kel-Varia grinders feature Kellenberger's KELCO 110 or 120 control that is designed to simplify programming on the shop floor and interface easily with engineering departments. The controls are fully PC-based and operate on Microsoft Windows NT systems driven by a Pentium processor. Grinding sequences can be programmed graphically or in dialogue ISO/DIN 66025 with picture assist.
