Developed for machine tools and other applications, the updated SHS linear motion guide uses the industry-standard HSR form factor as well as the company's integrated ball cage technology to provide smooth motion with a maintenance-free design. The ball cage eliminates ball-to-ball contact for increased performance and reduced friction (which reduces heat generation during high-speed rotation), longer life, and reduced maintenance, according to the company.
The balls are housed in a ball retainer that promotes smooth movement as well as high speed, low noise, and 80% reduction in rolling resistance variation. The unit can support loads in radial, reverse radial, and lateral directions. Because the balls are separated by a small distance, the number of effective balls is about the same; the load ratings are said to be equivalent to or better than HSR and comparable LM guides based on size.
Accuracies for the guides are normal, high, precision, super-precision, and ultra precision. A variety of configurations— including six block styles and three preloads—is possible.
