Milacron to host concentrated training courses in SPC and basic/ advanced injection molding

Ferromatik Milacron North America's Batavia facility will host a series of concentrated training courses on basic/advanced injection molding and SPC, provided by Paradigm International, Inc. Course material and instruction — which are not specific to Milacron — are provided by Jeffery Humble, Ph.D., president of Paradigm International and a former professor of plastics engineering technology at Shawnee State University in southeast Ohio. In addition to serving as consultant and facilitator for manufacturers seeking ISO/QS certification, Humble has done training for such companies as GE Polymerland, TS Trim Industries and others. According to Humble, course materials are among the highest quality available in the plastics industry and have been focused through years of experience to provide the "largest learning gain possible" in a short time. The two-day courses involve both classroom and "hands-on" shop-floor instruction.
"We're offering our facility and time as a service to the plastics industry," said Milacron Training Administrator Susan Guy. Milacron holds more than 100 training seminars of its own per year and has one of the finest instructional facilities in the U.S. for plastics processing, according to Guy. "The rapid evolution of technology, the sophistication of new machines, high turnover rates and the shortage of trained personnel, have made it difficult for molders to maintain an acceptable level of skill in the set-up and processing methodology of operators," she added. "These new courses address a critical issue for all molders in maintaining a competitive edge, not to mention ISO and QS requirements."
Cost of the courses is $960 per person for two full days of instruction and all materials. The SPC unit is an introduction to critical quality concepts, such as TQM and ISO/QS 9000, and it addresses the mechanics of implementation and interpretation of SQC/SPC data. It is offered March 27-28 and September 26-27. Injection molding Level 1 Theory and Practice is June 26-27, followed by Level 2 June 28-29. The two molding courses are held back to back again in the fall, October 30-31 and November 1-2. They cover every aspect of injection molding, including part design, molds, safety, materials, machines and "putting it all together" in a controlled process. Level 1 is applicable to entry level operators, technicians, and set-up/maintenance people, while level 2 is suitable for engineers, mold builders, CAE designers and sales/marketing executives.
