Modular Boring System

Command Tooling Systems, LLCinish boring of large, deep holes in a single machine pass is possible on most machining centers using the Command Urma IntraMax modular boring system. Users of machines with HSK 63A and 100A, V-Flange, or BT tooling can benefit from savings from reduced cycle times with the IntraMax system. Lightweight and designed to take big cuts with less horsepower, the system is adaptable to both Alpha and the new Beta Modul connections. The IntraMax system has an infinite range of inside boring diameters from 3.5 to 8.1 in. It can also be used to turn outside diameters from 0.35 to 3.9 in.

Single-pass roughing/finishing operation is achieved by offsetting the roughing head from the finishing diameter and then lowering the finishing insert to allow the rougher to lead. The roughing cutter removes 0.050-0.100 in. depth of cut (doc) while the finishing head removes 0.020-0.040 in. doc. The cutting pressures are not equal, but they are opposite each other to help stabilize the operation over the length of the bore.
