Chevalier's new high speed VMC features FANUC 18M control, data server, AICC software, 10,000RPM spindle with chiller and 4 THK NR linear guideways on the Y axis. The work envelope is 52"x25"x25". All models have rigid square ways on the Z axis. Rapid travel on X & Y axis is 1181ipm, while Z axis is at 709ipm. The cutting feedrate ranges from .04 to-300ipm. The Z axis counterweight uses dual bearings that helps handle heavy loads efficiently while maintaining smooth movement and accuracy. The chain assembly in the Z axis also helps increase stability and reduce headstock vibration during high speed machining. A high precision spindle is supported by class 7 (P4) angular contact ball bearings and has a maximum speed of 10,000rpm with an extra-wide timing belt to improve transmission power This new model also uses a floating type tool discharge system which eliminates the load pressure transferred to the spindle bearings during tool change. The tool changer features bi-directional, random access tool selection for faster tool change. Standard equipment is a carousel type tool changer with 20 tools and optional 24 tool arm type tool changer. The carousel type uses a pneumatic cylinder, designed with a pneumatic slow-down function for accurate and stable operation. The arm type automatic tool changer with cam construction shortens tool change time. An automatic air blast keeps the spindle clean during tool change. The AC servo drive, motors and control are all FANUC and come with a 2-year warranty. An extra wide saddle design eliminates vibration and chatter during heavy duty end-mill machining. Thick casting walls and box type ribs ensure maximum cutting performance and vibration absorption. Precision hardened and ground, pre-loaded Class C3 40mm ballscrews are directly coupled to the servo motors for increased reliability. To prevent thermal deformation of both workpiece and tool, three options are offered: a through-spindle coolant system, 3-nozzle headstock coolant system and a workpiece cleaning gun. A rear chip flushing option is offered for quickly removing hot chips from the machine. Each machine is subjected to Finite Element Analysis to maximize structural rigidity and laser and ball bar tested for accuracy.
