--The all-new Twin ATC (Automatic Tool Changer) option, featuring up to 40 tool capability, is offered on Hardinge VMC600II, VMC800II and VMC1000II vertical machining centers.

The Twin ATC with tool life management can utilize a total of 40 programmable tools, allowing the machine to run continuously without stopping to replace worn or dull tools. This is especially beneficial for companies that run high production or multiple machine cells with one operator. Tool life management automatically selects a new matching tool from the carousel when the tool in the spindle becomes dull or worn, based on the percentage of use or the number of cycles as predetermined by the programmer/operator.

Another advantage the Twin ATC affords is the ability to work around long production runs. The increased number of tool pockets, work coordinates and tool offsets now allow a company to accept a ‘hot job' without affecting any aspect of the production run.

Key features of the Twin ATC include:

  • 40 total programmable tools
  • 40 Taper CAT-V or BT tooling
  • Shortest path bidirectional tool selection
  • Unique pocket gripper design that minimizes damage in event of crash
  • 3 second tool-to-tool time
  • 400 tool offsets
  • Operator's panels at both ends of machine
  • All-electronic carousel for added reliability
  • 3.5" tool diameter (6" with adjacent pocket empty)
  • 9.84" tool length
  • 13.2-pound tool weight

All Hardinge Series II VMCs are Hardinge-designed, -manufactured and -tested to comply with strict ANSI/ASME B5.54 standards. They are intended to provide cost-effective milling, drilling and rigid tapping operations on a wide range of workpiece materials.

The machines also feature as standard the following: spindle taper cleaning, surround tool coolant, rigid tapping, manual pulse generator, 3 linear guideways with 5 guide trucks on the X and Y axes, 2 linear guideways with 6 guide trucks on the Z axis. Options include: hi-torque spindle, thru-spindle coolant, chip flush, vise fixturing, 4th axis drive and rotary tables, part probe, tool touch probe and more.
