N/Arbiting/Vectoring Ram electrical discharge machine is a rugged, compact floor-standing machine equipped with a programmable orbiting/vectoring feature. This feature is designed to provide easier part size control, reduced finishing and polishing times, and reduced electrode requirements. Separate roughing and finishing electrodes are not required.
According to the manufacturer, orbiting produces an improved surface finish on both the cavity bottom and sidewalls—cavity size can be adjusted independent of electrode size. In addition, orbiting motions are said to allow for optimum flushing conditions.
The machine is capable of handling workpieces up to 3,300-lb. Metal removal rages of 4.8 in.³/hr graphite to steel are possible and surface finish capability is 10 µ-in. AA. Table dimensions are 31.4- × 19.6-in. (800- × 500-mm), and worktank dimensions are 49.2- × 27.5- × 18-in. (1,250- × 700- × 458-mm).
