PGX CNC Punch Grinding Machine

The ANCA PGX CNC punch grinding machine, capable of rapidly grinding round, eccentric, and step HSS punches up to 6" (150 mm), 550 lbs., with high stock removal rates. The PGX is capable of using a vitrified CBN grinding wheel, which dramatically reduces the tool stress and temperature of grinding for higher possible stock removal rates, and can slash cycle times by up to 60% compared to conventional grit.

Large, long-lasting grinding wheels from 22" to 30" (760 mm), a 30-HP (22 Kw) spindle drive, direct-drive axis, and the rigid, vibration- dampening polymer concrete base the PGX delivers an unparalleled, yet affordable, combination of power and precision. The PGX can rapidly generate punch surfaces within .0002" parallelism.

Providing a fast, flexible method of punch grinding, changeover of the CNC PGX to generate a different punch design can be accomplished in a few minutes. PunchCAM software helps users program even the most complex punches in minutes through an easy-to-use graphical user interface. It presents a shape menu for standard tasks and a 2-D geometry editor for more complex tools. No NC programming skills are needed. From width, height and radii, the CNC will create the program.

The dynamically balanced wheel spindle can be programmed through the CNC for 200 to 3000 RPM or for constant surface speed, permitting users to optimize grinding conditions and reduce cycle time.

The new optional CBN kit allows the power, strength and accuracy of the PGX to exploit the economies and efficiency of CBN technology in punch grinding. The advantage of CBN wheels is shorter cycle times and high stock removal with multiple tools produced between dressings. The PGX CBN kit includes an acoustic emission (AE) sensor to ensure that only the minimum necessary material is removed during dressing cycles for both wheel accuracy and long life. The AE sensor detects when the wheel periphery is touching the rotary dresser to within .001mm.
