Romi Standardizes on SolidWorks 3D CAD Software

Industrias Romi SA (Sao Paulo, Brazil) has selected SolidWorks 3D CAD software for designing and manufacturing its machine tools, plastic injection molding machine, high precision adjustable boring systems, and rough and machined castings. Romi, which is the largest manufacturer of machine tools and plastic injections molding machines in Latin America, will be using 104 seats of SolidWorks. It is the parent of Romi Machine Tools Ltd (Erlanger, KY).

Romi decided to make the transition from 2D CAD to 3D solid modeling software more than a year ago. It chose SolidWorks (from Dassault Systemes) for its native Windows environment, ease-of-use, large assembly capabilities, short learning curve, and competitive price. Romi will use SolidWorks from the initial design stages of its products through the development of the final assemblies.

SolidWorks was selected because of its ability to increase productivity, improve accuracy, and reduce design time. In addition it is possible to exchange information quickly and securely within the company. Romi expects the sophisticated modeling capabilities of SolidWorks to allow Romi's engineers to design and build better tooling machines and plastic injection units that are higher in quality, lower in cost, and easier to create.

SolidWorks also donated 15 educational copies of its software to the Romi Foundation CAD laboratory, a non-profit teaching institution developed for engineering students. SolidWorks reseller, Assessocon (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and SolidWorks Latin America, represented by Jung Systems Informatica Ltda will provide installation, training, and support to Romi.
