Sandvik Expands Its Drill Bit Resharpening Machine Portfolio With Mid-Range RG550Be

Sandvik introduces the mid-range RG550Be, expanding its innovative drill bit resharpening machine portfolio. The range now covers all operational needs for top hammer (TH) and down-the-hole (DTH) drilling, with high-end, mid-range, and handheld machines designed for safety, ergonomics and performance.

Recent field tests indicate that scheduled resharpening can extend the life of a drill bit by up to ten times and reduce the cost per drilled meter by 43% or more.

Product highlights include:

  • RG600Pro: High-end, semi-automatic, stationary machine for TH and DTH bits (up to 180 mm skirt/shank diameter), featuring multi-bit loading, adaptive programming, water filtration, ventilation, Wi-Fi connectivity and digital dashboards. RG600Pro remains Sandvik’s flagship solution for high-volume operations.
  • RG550Be: Mid-range, semi-automatic, stationary, non-pneumatic plug-and-go sharpening machine offering integrated water recirculation, filtration and power ventilation. A battery-electric, non-pneumatic rig-mounted version is also available, providing flexibility for on-site operations. Both versions support TH and DTH bits (up to 140 mm skirt/shank diameter) with Wi-Fi connectivity, and digital dashboards.
  • RG500Hh: Handheld, pneumatic, high-powered grinder for all bit sizes, ideal for on-rig or smaller operations.

Both RG600Pro and RG550Be offer 24/7 access to performance data, machine monitoring, digital spare parts lists and RFID-enabled grinding cup compatibility.

“By adding RG550Be to its offering, Sandvik now provides a comprehensive resharpening solution catering to diverse customer needs. Our innovative equipment together with good resharpening routines improve quality, capacity, and cost efficiency while reducing CO emissions and product waste,” says Kiran Kota, Product Manager Resharpening Equipment at Sandvik.
