SBN(TM) Salt Bath Nitriding Processes

Kolene SBN salt bath nitriding processes (also known as ferritic nitrocarburizing) economically upgrade the wear, fatigue, and corrosion resistance of ferrous materials. They also significantly reduce the frictional properties of the components.

The unique combinations of benefits achieved with our SBN processes often allow the substitution of lower cost base metals while increasing the performance of the component at the same time. These processes are also a viable alternative to conventional surface plating processes such as electroless nickel and hard chromium, as well as alternative nitriding techniques. Products include Nu-Tride® nitriding salt, Re-Nu Gold ® regenerating compound, and Kolene KQ-500 ® quench salts.

Where very smooth surfaces and cosmetics are paramount, the Kolene QPQ SM process is ideal. Based on SBN technology, the Kolene QPQ process incorporates intermediate polishing and a secondary salt bath immersion to develop a deep black, lustrous, low RMS surface.

Kolene SBN processes are available for installation "in-house" or on a commercial jobbing basis from our authorized commercial processors.
