The Index V200 is the smallest of a series of machines consisting of three chuck capacities ranging from 8 in. with the V200; 10 in. with the V250; and 12 in. to 16 in. with the V300 machine. This moving spindle machine loads and unloads itself of chucked components. The mainspindle acts as a pick up and transfer mechanism, moving to the conveyor and picking up the part itself. Direct pickup of the part reduces load/unload time to 6 or 7 seconds.

The spindle is located in a vertical position above the tools, allowing for ideal chip flow and removal. This eliminates the need of flushing the chuck between workpiece changes. Tools are mounted gang-style in simple tool blocks under the spindle.

A 14-station turret is also available where more tools are needed or power-driven tools are required. In addition, a combination of standard turning tools in the turret and special machining systems such as multi-spindle drill heads, high frequency milling machines, grinding spindles, and laser welding are available. In effect, the machine is transformed in this way from a simple CNC chucker into an advanced production center.

The machine is controlled by the Fanuc 16TC control system. It is equipped with a simple, yet universal pallet loading system, allowing automatic oriented- or non-oriented loading and unloading of parts.
