Shear Genius

SHEAR GENIUS is a new concept in fabrication which was developed by the FINN-POWER Group for its internationally renowned modular approach to flexible manufacturing. FINN-POWER has combined its unique experience in hydraulic punching, modular manufacturing systems, and integrated right angle shearing in order to create this ultimate fabricating system.

The SHEAR GENIUS systems integrate and automate loading, punching, and shearing operations for the production of high-quality components. SHEAR GENIUS lets you manufacture faster, more economically, and utilizes a wider range of sheet material than any alternative solution on the market.

Versatile programming

FINN-POWER JETCAM 2 is the most versatile programming system on the market today. It efficiently links engineering to manufacturing via CAD/CAM.

Material processing capabilities

SHEAR GENIUS can handle all mild steel thicknesses up to 7 ga. and sheet sizes up to 60" X 120". Its punching/nibbling function can be utilized with up to 5/16" mild steel sheet.

Automatic loading

Sheet loading is automated by a manipulator which moves sheets from the stack into the clamping position. The loading equipment features:

- Loading table with magnetic sheet separator

- Pneumatic suction cup manipulator, divided into independent operating zones

- Pneumatically operated lifting and transfer functions

State-of-the-art hydraulic punching

SHEAR GENIUS features FINN-POWER's state-of-the-art turret punch press technology which combines rugged construction with sophisticated automation and maximum versatility. The high-precision, durable punching/nibbling capacity of the SHEAR GENIUS is achieved with:

- 33 ton hydraulic punch force

- Nibbling speed up to over 1000 hits per minute (option)

- Siemens Sinumerik 880N control

- Programmable stroke depth, stroke length and ram speed

- 21 turret stations, up to 10 Auto-Index stations and with Multitool more than 100 tools in turret.

- Any tooling style from either Mate Punch & Die or Wilson Tool International

The standard SHEAR GENIUS system also features three clamps and clamp move, automatic repositioning, automatic clamp setting (PCS) and a scrap conveyor.

The complete range of FINN-POWER's turret punch press options is available, and can be added to SHEAR GENIUS at any time.

Benefits of FINN-POWER's right angle shear

After punching has been completed on the full size sheet, the "X" slide moves the sheet to the RS-1000 right angle shear. The shear separates the finished parts and places them on a conveyor for transfer out of the unit. The standard SHEAR GENIUS package includes two conveyors, one for finished workpieces and one for scrap removal.

The Finn-Power machine can shear mild steel thicknesses up to 7 ga. (.157") (4mm) and aluminum up to 3/16" (.197")(5mm).

A system which integrates punching and shearing operations offers savings of material handling and manufacturing time. These savings are a direct result of FINN-POWER's:

- Powerful programming capacity for optimal nesting, tool placement, etc.

- Elimination of skeletons, scallops, and pinch marks left by contouring parts out with a punch

Automated for prolonged unmanned operation

Because SHEAR GENIUS's design originates from FINN-POWER's large Flexible Manufacturing Systems, SHEAR GENIUS can be expanded for prolonged unmanned operation periods by adding our automated sorting and stacking systems or a complete automatic material management system.
