The L. S. Starrett Companyheck 2 is a fully automatic "shop hardened" coordinate measuring machine that offers a volumetric accuracy specification of 0.0004-in. on the shop floor. The mechanical bearing, gantry-style machine is available with the Starrett Apogee software.

The CMM's gantry-designed frame reduces overall structural mass, and solid, granite side members provide a rigid, thermally stable superstructure that dampens vibration. The Z-axis is made of thin-wall structural steel, which reduces mass while increasing the stiffness and minimizes thermal expansion. Fully enclosed guideways prevent contamination of bearings, drive mechanism, and scales. The manufacturer states that a dual-beam X-axis design with a centrally mounted Z-axis maximizes the stability of the moving carriage, minimizing roll factors.

Currently, the CMM is available in a 24- × 24- × 18-in. (XYZ) measuring capacity, but, according to the manufacturer, will be available in a wider range of sizes in the future.
