SL-20 Automatic Parts Loader

The new Haas SL-20 APL features a fully automated parts loader with opposing two-jaw grippers. The APL is programmed directly through the lathe's control and operates in the background of normal turning operations. A double-sided rotating gripper allows near-continuous unattended machining by rotating parts for double-ended turning, or loading and unloading parts with a single trip to the spindle. The APL's table holds 1,000 lb - each part can weight up to 15 lb for double gripper use, or 30 lb for the optional two-clamp shaft gripper. The APL's storage table will hold finished as well as raw parts. "Shark tooth" designed workpiece holders are able to grip most types of raw and finished shapes. To increase productivity further, live tooling and full C-axis options can be added. This allows such secondary operations as milling, drilling and tapping to be performed without having to move the parts to a second machine, providing true lights-out capabilities.
