Sundon Park, UK - Breaking new ground in machine design, specification and functionality, the latest Deckel Maho DMU 40 MonoBLOCK universal machining centre with five-axis simultaneous capability and up to 42,000 revs/min spindle, is the most compact, taking up no more than 4m of floorspace, in the totally new generation of the MonoBLOCK machine series.

Available from DMG of Luton, this ultra-modern design of machining centre has been developed with operator ergonomics firmly in mind. The large revolving door gives total access to the working and tool magazine area and when closed, this area can be easily viewed through a large shatterproof and scratch resistant safety glass panel in the door. To emphasise the presentation of the machine it has a distinctive, easy to clean high gloss black finish and brushed chrome surfaces.

Even the control system sets new standards for presentation and ergonomics with its large and clear 19 inch flat screen display individually adjustable between 3º and 30º. This is combined with DMG's SlimLinePanel operating console, also adjustable between 15º and 70º, that enables the operator to create the most comfortable operating position. An optional fully integrated seat is also available.

The DMU 40 MonoBLOCK will provide a five-sided tooling approach to the component for combined operational cycles via a high dynamics, NC swivelling milling head able to function as a B-axis with +30º to -95º of movement and heavy-duty hydraulic clamping. The B-axis head is fully integrated with an NC rotary table of 450 mm diameter able to accept a maximum loading of 250 kg and revolve as a C-axis under program control at up to 60 revs/min. Axis strokes are 450 mm in X, by 400 mm in Y and 480 mm in Z with rapid traverse rates of 30 m/min achieved at an acceleration of 0.8G.

There is an options range of fully integrated main spindle motors to suit any application from high torque 18,000 revs/min to high speed 42,000 revs/min. The 18,000 revs/min spindle is powered by a 28 kW drive developing 121 Nm of torque through an SK40 taper. A 24,000 revs/min spindle has 26 kW and 85 Nm of torque through an HSK-A63 taper and a 30,000 revs/min spindle has a 15 kW drive giving 119 Nm of torque and an HSK-E50 tool shank taper.

Meanwhile, a 10 kW integrated motor with 6.4 Nm of torque and a HSK-E50 taper spindle, is fully programmable up to 42,000 revs/min. A 16 pocket plate style pick-up magazine enables a chip to chip tool exchange to be carried out inside nine seconds.

The DMU 40 MonoBLOCK has the latest DMG ERGOline control with a 19 inch flat screen, as standard, with DMG SOFTkeys that are highly useful customised hotkeys for frequently used screen selections. It also includes MillPlus IT V600 intuitive operation and program structure. Also available is the Heidenhain iTNC 530 control with full 3-D simulation and collision monitoring
