SURFCAM 2000 Release Debuts at South-Tec2000

Codenamed "Amazon," the newest release of Surfware Inc. (Westlake Village, CA), is sporting a completely redesigned look as well as a number of advanced features. A new software interface greatly speeds learning and operation time. Pull down menus, hot keys and icons provide ready shortcuts to all SURFCAM features for CNC programming of 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-axis mills, lathes, wire EDM, laser, plasma and water-jet machines.

Surfcam's steep/shallow feature sorts vertical or horizontal surface region selections to minimize rapid moves.

The new release retains the traditional SURFCAM look and feel that is still available using SURFCAM 2000's Classic Mode. An advanced new machining feature, Pencil Cut, automatically generates and then machines cutter intersections between multiple surfaces. Built-in intelligence optimizes the toolpath for fastest, most accurate cuts between surfaces.

Pencil cut feature machines sharp or filleted single or multiple surface details in Surfcam using ball, bull, and end mills.

A new snap cursor feature automatically finds endpoints, intersections, perpendicular points, center points, midpoints, snap-to-grid and more in SURFCAM 2000. This greatly enhanced cursor feature reduces design time and provides intuitive features for drafting. Newly improved Z-level roughing and finishing offers bulletproof machining functionality for material removal and finishing. Z-level cutting creates highly accurate, gouge-free toolpaths for the most complex cutting operations.

For mill/turn machines, Surfcam offers an integrated tool kit with both live tooling and off-center operations.

Manufacturers, designers, engineers, numerical control programmers and machinists will be able to see the new release of Surfware's 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-axis PC-based computer-aided manufacturing software in action at South-Tec2000. Surfware will be in booths 1450 and 328 at the Charlotte Convention Center, Charlotte, NC, from Feb 29 to March 2, 2000.
