Affordable HSM in a Small Package

The term high-speed machining often invokes visions of large, complex machines and expensive prices. But not all high-speed jobs are big, and not all high-speed machines are complex and expensive. The new Super Mini Mill from Haas Automation, Inc., is a compact machine that provides high-speed machining capabilities in an easy-to-use package – all at a base price less than $40,000 (U.S.).

The Super Mini Mill has a space-saving footprint of only 6.5' x 6.5', yet provides a generous work envelope of 16" x 12" x 10" (xyz). It comes standard with a 10,000-rpm spindle, 1,200-ipm rapids, 1 MB of program memory, rigid tapping and a high-speed tool changer. It is the ideal machine for the type of drilling and tapping required by the electronics industry, or for high-speed contouring of graphite electrodes or small molds.

The Super Mini Mill runs on three-phase power, and features a 15-hp vector drive spindle that accepts standard 40-taper tooling. With cutting feedrates up to 833 ipm, 1,200-ipm rapids and 2.5-second tool changes, cycle times on the Super Mini Mill are kept to a minimum. The 36" x 12" table (28.75" working surface) provides plenty of room for fixturing, and like all Haas machines, the Super Mini Mill comes equipped with the powerful Haas control, which is said to be the easiest to use in the industry.

Other standard features of the Super Mini Mill include a coolant pump, floppy disk drive, beacon light and plastic top cover. A high-performance package of options is also available, which boosts spindle speed to 15,000 rpm, expands program memory to 16 MB, and adds High-Speed Machining control software with full look-ahead, user-definable macros and coordinate rotation & scaling – all for less than $10,000 (US).

The new Super Mini Mill from Haas – a compact, high-speed machining solution at an affordable price.
