Compumachine, Inc. (Wilmington, MA)ree (see COMPUMILL VIBRA-FREE) vertical machining center is designed for new ultra high-
speed "hard-milling" specifically for North American tool, die, and moldmakers. The machine features a Swiss-built, high-frequency 12-hp spindle capable of 42,000 rpm. A rigid and thermally stable cast bridge supports the spindle, virtually eliminating flexing and distortion. The 27.56 x 17.72-in. table supports up to 800 lb and traverses the 23.62 x 16.5-in. workplane at speeds to 1180 ipm, accelerating at 1g. Z travel is 15.75 in.

The table rides on premium linear guideways, driven by ground, and polished ballscrews, delivering full-stroke positioning within 0.0001 in. and ±0.0001 in. repeatability. The SKI-25 tooling is stored in an 8-tool, random access, bi-directional carrousel-type magazine, contained completely within the full-machine guarding as well as completely shielded from the work. Machine control is supplied by the Fanuc 16i CNC, incorporating advanced NURBS software and high-speed algorithms to dramatically increase spindle and tool life, maximize accuracy, and provide outstanding mirror surfaces on workpieces.
