Vertical Turning Center

The VTC is designed to handle large, heavy parts that require multiple turning and milling operations in a single setup. This unique machine starts with a rugged cast-iron foundation, then adds a 48" diameter turning T-slot table and a rigid 50-taper milling head. The T-slot table is powered by a 30-hp drive system through a two-speed gearbox for turning, and a high-performance servo motor for very precise C-axis positioning and interpolation. The platter has a 10,000-lb part capacity and handles workpieces with a maximum diameter of 48" and a maximum height of 28". Live-tool milling, drilling and tapping are provided by a Haas 50-taper spindle through a two-speed geared head. The powerful 30-hp Vector Drive system yields 450 ft-lb of torque and speeds to 5,000 rpm; a 10,000-rpm spindle is also available. The VTC comes equipped with a versatile 30-station side-mount tool changer that holds 30 milling tools or 10 turning/boring tools, or a combination of the two types.
